Bus From Puebla to Mexico City Airport

We are on the Estrella Roja airporter bus on our way to Benito Juarez Airport in Mexico City. It is very luxe with free wifi, a choice of beverages and snacks and an espresso machine to load us up in the airport before departure. On my left are the two snow-capped volcanoes. El Popo has a faint whoso of smoke coming out of his cone. These are both active. Quite a view. The cost of the two hour trip is 194 pesos which is about $16 USD. The important tip is to buy your ticket at TAPU bus station when you arrive in Puebla from Oaxaca and if you are staying downtown you want to leave from the 4 Poniente terminal which was about 7 minutes from our historic center hotel.

  1. We are planning to visit Puebla next month, we want to schedule our flight back to the US, what times do you have buses leaving for the airport to Mexico City, we have a 0900 flight.

    • You need to contact Estrella Roja for the departure schedules from Puebla to the D.F. Benito Juarez Airport. You can leave from the Estrella Roja terminal on 4 Poniente and it will take you directly to either Terminal One or Two at the airport. 4 Poniente is closest to the Puebla historic center. Good luck. You need to allow 2-1/2 hours for the bus ride. Then, two hours more to be at the airport before your departure time. You would be looking to leave Puebla at 4:30 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. departure to the U.S.

  2. Actually, I believe that Ixta – the other volcano – is dormant. Popo is still active. Thanks for the post on the goat guaje stew! I’m going to try some. If you ever get to Atlixco, which is 20 minutes from Puebla, go into the mercado and try some “carnero” – it’s what they call their barbecue kid. Awesome.
